May – June 2010

Fredericton Arts Alliance Artists in Residence 2010 Summer Series

May 29-June 4 Susan Pierce (Oil Painting)
Emerging Artist Susan Pierce has studied oil painting and advanced drawing under Glenn Priestly since 2007. Between 2006 and 2009 she also studied encaustic with Sarah Petite, color with Denise Richard, drawing with Cora Woolsey and oil painting with Danny Price. She will be painting with oil on canvas.

This year the residencies will be located at York Sunbury Museum, 571 Queen Street. The series presents local professional artists and fine craftspeople in residencies. Artists will create a studio space providing the public with a wonderful opportunity to talk with the artists, learn about their inspiration and creation and witness professional art in the making.

The York Sunbury Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 1-4 PM and closed on Monday and Sunday.  The Fredericton Arts Alliance gratefully acknowledges our partners York Sunbury Museum and Historical Society and our funders: City of Fredericton Arts, Culture and Heritage Program; RBC Emerging Artist Program; the Province of New Brunswick, Partnership Program for Community Cultural Activities and Downtown Fredericton.

Charlotte Street Arts Centre – Sacred

Two new pieces of my work have been selected for inclusion in the 2009 Summer Theme Exhibition, Sacred, at the Charlotte Street Arts Center in the Charlotte Glencross Gallery, 732 Charlotte St., Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Opening reception is on July 17, 5-7 PM. This juried exhibition includes works by 36 artists from four provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and British Columbia, and all reflect on the theme of Sacred. The approaches taken to the theme are as varied as the arts media used to develop them: photography, clay, drawings, paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolours, woodblock print, pastel, felt, encaustic and mixed media. Summer theme exhibitions have been growing in depth and focus since the initial exhibition Hot! in 2007, followed by Order/Chaos in 2008. The exhibition will remain at the gallery until the end of August.
